The VUCA world is inextricably linked to technology, namely the fourth industrial. The new industrial turn is unlike all the previous ones, it will inevitably change our world, change habits, transform life, rest, communication and work. It involves a new approach to doing business through the large-scale use of digital and information technologies, the comprehensive digitalization of business processes and the spread of artificial intelligence. Here are some statistics. Since 2000, 52% of Forbes listed companies have ceased to exist, they either went bankrupt or were acquired / merged with stronger players. Generations of great companies have disappeared. They were replaced by new or more technologically advanced players.
Global competition among countries and competition among companies is intensifying. Competition among qualified workers is also growing. At the same time, people are moving to cities: by 2050, 68% of the world's population will live in cities. According to Thomas Siebel 35% of current professional skills will change in five years. Significant supply and demand mismatches are expected for digital knowledge.
Now let's look back 10-15 years ago and remember what else has changed:
8. Online conferences, calls, meetings, education were available to a limited extent, usually in the corporate sector on expensive equipment. No one could have imagined that this type of communication will go online in a significant volume. Previously, online video communication was rather viewed as a forced measure, but this type of communication has become widespread. Costs are decreasing, geography is increasing, we have the opportunity to work and do business from different parts of the world.
9. The emergence of the iPhone and the emergence of the smartphone market took place a little over 10 years ago. There were no smartphones before iPhone appearance, push-button telephones were common. Just think about the number of useful functions that have become available to us with the advent of a smartphone: navigation, instant messengers, video calls, social networks, emails, content (music, video, photos, books, news), games, translators, online purchases, services (banks, reservations, taxis, transport, car sharing, education) and much, much more. The capabilities of the human brain and intelligence have multiplied, primarily due to the availability of smartphones.
10. Almost no one has heard or thought about the digitalization of business, the integration of management systems, incl. RPA (business process automation using bots), Big Data, Neural Grids, Machine and Deep Learning, Digital Marketing, etc. Now digitalization has become an indispensable competitive tool for survival and development.
